Global vehicle production reached 92.5 million units in 2024, according to data from the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). In this context, Mexico reaffirmed its role as a global automotive powerhouse, ranking fifth worldwide with 4.2 million units manufactured, surpassing countries like South Korea and Brazil, and trailing only China, the United States, and Japan.
Global Production on the Rise
Regionally, Asia-Oceania maintained its leadership with over 54.9 million units, driven by China, which produced 31.2 million vehicles, accounting for one-third of global production. North America followed with 16.1 million units, where Mexico saw a 5% growth compared to 2023, achieving a record figure. In contrast, Europe experienced a slight 5% decline, closing with 17.2 million units.
Mexico’s Strategic Role
With 4,202,642 vehicles produced, Mexico is not only the largest producer in Latin America but has also solidified its position as a hub of the automotive industry in North America. Its performance makes it the only country in the region to record sustained growth over the past three years: 32% in 2021, 20% in 2022, and 5% in 2024. This stability confirms the country’s competitive advantages in specialized talent, industrial infrastructure, and proximity to the U.S. market.
In the case of the United States, production reached 10.5 million units, while Japan manufactured 8.2 million, with a 9% decline compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, India solidified its third-place ranking with 6 million vehicles, significantly surpassing South Korea, which closed with 4.1 million.
Mexico’s relevance lies in its ability to respond to nearshoring and the growing demand for vehicles for export, primarily to North America and Europe. By integrating major automakers and hundreds of suppliers into its production chain, the country has strengthened its position as a strategic global automotive hub.
With these figures, Mexico not only reaffirms its role in the global automotive industry but also emerges as an increasingly influential player in the transformation of mobility, supported by an industry that combines innovation, quality, and international competitiveness.
