International Conference on Mexican Studies in China

From August 16 to 17, 2025 the International Conference on Mexican Studies in China was held in Jinan City, Shandong Province. The conference was co-hosted by the National Autonomous University of Mexico and Fudan University, with support from the Beijing China-Latin America Education, Science, and Culture Center and the Shandong Province Chinese Language Education Base, among other institutions. Over 50 representatives attended the conference, including diplomats, experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, and representatives from cultural and educational institutions from China, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Ecuador, and other countries and regions, as well as MEXCHAM. The two-day conference primarily focused on research within the Asian academic community regarding Mexican civilization, particularly the exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and Mexican civilizations

At the opening ceremony of the conference, several distinguished guests delivered speeches, sharing their insightful perspectives on China-Mexico exchanges and cooperation. Guo Cunhai, Researcher and Director of the Social and Cultural Research Division at the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, reflected on his experience as a visiting scholar at the National Autonomous University of Mexico twelve years ago, emphasizing the profound significance of cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Mexico. Sergio Kwiatek, Counselor for Political Affairs and Chief of the office at the Mexican Embassy in China, introduced Mexico’s history and traditional culture, noting that cooperation and understanding between peoples form the foundation of bilateral relations.

Professor Adalberto Noyola, Director of the Representative Office of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in China, emphasized the importance of gaining a deeper understanding of Mexico’s real value, highlighting its significance in terms of history, culture, natural resources, and its role as a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement and a strategic partner of Spanish-speaking countries.

Professor Cheng Yiyang, Director of the Center for Research on Spanish- and Portuguese-Speaking Countries at Fudan University, pointed out that based on the long-term interaction between China and Mexico in the fields of education, academia, and art, the two sides have established a multi-level, three-dimensional exchange network.

Silvia Martínez, representative of the Asian Mexican Studies Committee and chair of the Japan-Mexico Teachers Association, said that Mexican studies are of great significance for promoting academic development in China and East Asia.

On August 17th 2025, China Mexican investment and business Forum was held , Víctor Cadena, Executive Vice Chairman of the MEXCHAM, gave an overiew of chinese companies doing business in Mexico, as well as Mexican companies doing business in China, and introduced bilateral trade between China and Mexico, also encouraged more investment between two countries.

MEXCHAM look forward more Mexican companies expanding to China as well as more China companies expanding to Mexico.
