The project, led by the Navy Airport Group, includes the complete renovation of the terminal building, documentation and security areas, as well as arrival and waiting rooms. Passenger capacity will increase fivefold and waiting room capacity sevenfold, while the operational area will grow by 243%. The runway, taxiways, and aprons will also be refurbished to enhance user safety and comfort.
Promoted by the Mexican government and President Claudia Sheinbaum, the project will integrate Colima into the National Airport System Network, along with airports such as Ciudad del Carmen, Guaymas, and Matamoros.
Currently, the airport only connects to Tijuana and Felipe Ángeles International Airport; with its modernization and internationalization, it is expected to add new routes, attract more visitors, and strengthen tourism, trade, and investment, taking advantage of its proximity to the Pacific coast.
