Geely debuts EX5 EV in Mexico

  • 13th August 2025

Chinese automaker Geely has launched its first electric vehicle in Mexico, the EX5, offering a single version priced at MX$699,990 (US$37,099). This positions the SUV about MX$100,000 below comparable models from competitors such as the BYD Yuan Plus and Chevrolet Equinox EV.

Ricardo Arvizu, Geely’s product manager in Mexico, said the company’s global production scale and corporate structure allow it to offer the EX5 at a lower price. “Economies of scale from the Geely Holding ecosystem—Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Volvo, and now us—help us significantly. That’s one of the key factors enabling us to lower costs and introduce new technologies,” Arvizu told Expansión.

Although Geely’s brand is new to Mexico’s EV segment, its presence is not. Volvo, a Geely subsidiary, has been selling the EX30 in Mexico since 2024. The model ranks among the country’s top five electric vehicles and serves as a reference point for Geely’s local market debut under its own name. According to Arvizu, this is a positive sign for consumer adoption: “We want to break the idea that fully electric technology is expensive. Chinese brands are already addressing this—now we just need the market to overcome the fear of trying new vehicles.”

The EX5 is also Geely’s first globally designed model, adapted for multiple markets with minor regional adjustments. “It Is the first Geely vehicle offered in Australia through our new subsidiary. It’s also the first Galaxy-series model to be sold in Belgium and the UK, with right-hand drive,” said Arvizu.

Geely is already preparing to launch a second electric model in Mexico in 2025, continuing its strategy to grow its market presence with competitively priced, globally designed vehicles.
