Mexico’s 2025 EV sales heading for a new record

  • 30th September 2025

Between January and August 2025, over 88,000 electric and hybrid vehicles were sold in Mexico, the highest figure for a similar period in the history of the indicator, and it is estimated that 2025 will end with 130,500 units, which will also be a milestone, according to the EvolvX report.

Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Sales in Mexico 2025

The study, based on information from INEGI and international data, shows that sales of electrified vehicles—which include hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles—in Mexico increased from 24,405 units in 2020 to over 124,000 in 2024, multiplying the indicator by five in five years.

The report confirms that Mexico is progressing in line with the global trend; as infrastructure is consolidated and incentives are expanded, consumers are finding conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrids to be a practical solution for transitioning to cleaner mobility.

Projections for the Electrified Car Market Towards 2030

In parallel, battery electric vehicles continue to gain ground: sales were 450 units in 2020 and reached nearly 24,300 vehicles sold in 2024. According to projections by Latam Mobility, Mexico could reach different growth scenarios by 2030: a conservative one, with 10% annual growth, would bring the market

to 210,287 units; and an optimistic scenario, with 20% annual growth, could exceed 324,904 units.

The information also places Mexico in an international perspective. While pure electric vehicles already dominate in Europe and China, the transition in the country is happening through hybrid and plug-in models.

“This confirms that the Mexican electrification is betting on more charging infrastructure to increasingly incentivize electric vehicles,” stated Rebeca González, co-founder of Latam Mobility. “At Latam Mobility, we seek not only to inform the sector but also to serve as a basis for designing public policies, strengthening confidence, and accelerating the energy transition in the country. The future of mobility in Mexico will be electrified, and its pace will be driven by more infrastructure, incentives, and model availability,” she explained.
