CN-MX agri-trade snapshot: 2025 Jan-Sep
According to China Customs statistics, from January to September 2025, the total trade volume of agricultural products between China and Mexico exceeded USD1.13 billion, demonstrating the vitality of agricultural trade between the two countries. China’s total imports of agricultural products from Mexico reached USD264 million, with Mexican characteristic products such as beer and tequila performing brightly in the Chinese market. Meanwhile, China’s total exports of agricultural products to Mexico amounted to USD867 million, with aquatic products including shrimp and fish accounting for a significant share.
01 Features of Mexico’s Exports to ChinaLeveraging its unique agricultural resources and advanced food processing technology, Mexico has exported a series of popular agricultural products to Chinese consumers.
According to China Customs data, from January to September 2025, Mexico’s tequila exports to China reached USD19.21 million, and beer exports hit USD5.95 million , becoming highlights of Mexico’s agricultural exports to China.
At the same time, Mexico’s shrimp exports to China stood at USD30.84 million, banana exports at USD14.04 million, and avocado exports at USD214,000 enriching the dining options of Chinese people.
The successful export of these products is attributed to Mexico’s superior natural conditions and advanced food processing technology.
02 China’s Export AdvantagesChina’s agricultural exports to Mexico are dominated by aquatic products and their derivatives, showcasing China’s strengths in the agricultural processing sector.
From January to September 2025, China’s exports of fish products to Mexico reached USD207 million, shrimp products USD180 million, and tuna products USD39.02 million. These three categories of aquatic products account for a significant proportion of China’s total agricultural exports to Mexico. (Detailed data on aquatic product imports and exports between China and Mexico will be presented in the next post.)In addition, China’s characteristic agricultural products such as apples, tea, garlic, and onions are also popular in the Mexican market, with export volumes of USD2.91 million, USD2.80 million, USD130,000 and USD500,000 respectively.
The steady growth of China’s agricultural exports to Mexico is inseparable from the continuous upgrading and quality improvement of the domestic industry.Taking Fujian Province as an example, its export volume of shrimp and shrimp products ranked first in the country in the first seven months. Mexico is its largest single market outside Asia, with shrimp product exports to Mexico reaching 820 million RMB, accounting for 15% of the province’s total shrimp product exports.With the in-depth advancement of economic and trade cooperation between China and Mexico, agricultural product trade is expected to embrace broader development space.
Data from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products shows that from January to September 2025, China’s cumulative exports of aquatic products and their derivatives reached 14.8 billion US dollars, an increase of 3.6% year-on-year, accounting for 19.9% of the total agricultural product exports.This trend provides more high-quality options for the Mexican market. Meanwhile, the growing demand of Chinese consumers for high-quality agricultural products offers a broad market for Mexican characteristic agricultural products.The trade cooperation between the two countries has not only enriched people’s dining tables but also promoted the exchange and progress of agricultural technology.
