At the recent 2026 Mexico National Tourism Fair (Tianguis Turístico México 2026), Mexican Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that China has become one of Mexico’s most important and steadily growing source markets for tourists, with Chinese tourist arrivals increasing by 15% in 2025.
In a significant development, Mexico has announced the implementation of the “Cerca de China” certification guidelines, designed to enhance the service standards of hotels, restaurants, and tourism service providers to better meet the needs of Chinese tourists. This certification program was jointly developed by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism and a team of experts from the Chinese Embassy in Mexico to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese tourists’ preferences and expectations.
China has revealed that since 2012, it has consistently ranked as the world’s largest source market and consumer of tourism. Mexico has become the top destination for Chinese tourists in Latin America. Data shows that in 2025, more than 224,000 Chinese tourists arrived in Mexico by air, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Currently, China ranks among Mexico’s top nine source markets, with significant growth potential.
