Mexico’s imports from China hit a record high in Q1 2026

  • 6th July 2026

According to Table CA6, “Merchandise Imports by Country,” of the Bank of Mexico’s (Banxico) Economic Information System (SIE), Mexico imported US$31.69 billion worth of goods from China in the first quarter of 2026, up 4.43% year on year. The figure marked a record high for Mexico’s first-quarter imports from China.

Despite Mexico’s increase in import tariffs, effective 1 January 2026, on selected goods originating in countries and regions without free trade agreements with Mexico, imports from China continued to record year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2026.

Banxico’s country-level import data show that China remained an important source of imports for Mexico. The year-on-year increase in the first quarter indicates that Mexico’s imports from China expanded compared with the same period in 2025.

The figures are sourced from Table CA6, “Merchandise Imports by Country,” of the Bank of Mexico’s (Banxico) Economic Information System (SIE). The table reports values in thousands of US dollars and attributes imports by country of origin; the data are preliminary and subject to subsequent revision.
