The pharmaceutical and medical device industry in Mexico is emerging as one of the country’s most dynamic growth engines, with opportunities to attract new investment and expand production capacity. During the inauguration of ExpoMed Hospitalar 2025, business leaders and industry representatives agreed that Mexico has unique conditions to establish itself as a regional and global hub in this industry.
Mexico, a Medical Device Export Powerhouse
The country is currently the largest exporter of medical devices in Latin America and the fifth worldwide, which reflects the competitiveness of its production ecosystem and opens the door to expanding value chains. For companies, this positioning represents advantages in terms of access to international markets and attracting capital.
In the words of Javier Dávila, an industry planning specialist, “The growth of the pharmaceutical and medical device industry is on Mexico’s strategic agenda, as it is one of the productive sectors with the greatest capacity for expansion”.
Business and Expansion Opportunities
The strategy to boost the sector includes the installation of new plants in strategic hubs, the development of local suppliers, and the integration of companies into the global supply chain. Collaboration between private sector players and industry associations has been key to strengthening innovation projects and opening up new market niches.
Key figures at ExpoMed Hospitalar included Ana Riquelme, from the Association of Innovative Medical Device Industries (AMID), and Patrick Devlyn, president of the Health Commission of the CCE, who agreed that innovation and export capacity position Mexico as an attractive destination for health investment.
Under these conditions, the pharmaceutical and medical device sector is positioning itself not only as a generator of employment and foreign exchange but also as a pillar of competitiveness for the Mexican economy in the coming years.
