Mexico’s automotive industry continues to consolidate its role as an engine of national manufacturing and a key component of the country’s foreign trade. According to data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), in July 2025, the sector achieved its highest production and export levels for any July in history.
Historic Highs in Production
The January-July cumulative production reached 2,316,173 units, a 0.7% rise from the same period last year, when 2,300,117 units were recorded. This figure marks the highest historical volume of automotive production for the January-July period, driven by the dynamism of segments such as SUVs and pickups, as well as stability in supply chains.
Exports: Third-Highest January-July Period
Export data reflects the strength of Mexican manufacturing. In July, 289,598 light vehicles were exported, an increase of 7.9% compared to 268,385 in the same month of the previous year. This figure constitutes the highest export volume for any July.
However, the annual cumulative export volume reached 1,955,782 units, a 1.4% decline compared to the same period in 2024 (1,983,768 units). Despite this slight downturn, the January-July 2025 period remains the third-highest in the history of Mexico’s automotive industry, surpassed only by 2019 and 2023.
Stable Sales Performance
The domestic market showed stable performance, with a slight 0.6% drop in July sales. A total of 124,482 units were sold, compared to 125,046 in the same month of the previous year.
In the year to date, 833,826 units have been sold, just 0.3% fewer than the 836,082 units sold in the January-July 2024 period. Although domestic consumption has moderated, sales volume remains above the historical average of the past five years.
One of the most promising segments is that of hybrid and electric vehicles (VHE). In July 2025, 10,612 units of this type were sold, representing a 5% monthly decrease but maintaining a positive annual trend.
Between January and July 2025, sales of clean energy vehicles totaled 76,562 units, an increase of 17.4% compared to the same period last year. This volume accounts for 9.2% of total national sales, solidifying Mexico’s position as an increasingly receptive market for sustainable mobility.
