By the end of 2025, the State of Mexico remains the second most important economy in terms of contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with 9.1% of the national total. These figures, released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), indicate that the State of Mexico recorded an annual growth of 2.1% in 2024, higher than the 1.4% achieved at the national level. The head of the Secretariat of Economic Development, Laura González, emphasized that, while all three sectors of the economy show positive figures, the 1.9% rebound in the primary or agricultural sector stands out, which had not seen an increase for several years.

Regarding the secondary sector, which includes manufacturing, it grew by 2.9% compared to the previous year, due to progress in manufacturing and construction. Similarly, the tertiary or services sector increased by 1.9%.

“Not every state can say this: having grown positively for the size of the economy we have, having surpassed the national average, and having all three sectors grow is something very important,” she pointed out.
She also announced that, in terms of employment, from September 2023 to November 2025, 242,377 new formal jobs have been created in the region. In terms of national investment, there is a record of 8,228 million dollars, while foreign direct investment amounts to 12,421 million dollars. Finally, the head mentioned that by 2026, efforts will be made to begin a new phase of industrialization in the region, alongside the strengthening of the social economy, with the goal of bringing opportunities to everyone.
