Wasion Holdings Limited, a leading Chinese smart metering and energy efficiency management provider, is further strengthening its presence in Mexico with the recent inauguration of a new power transformer production base in Irapuato, Guanajuato, and the simultaneous expansion of its smart meter factory in Silao.
The newly opened Irapuato facility, with an investment of $7.3 million, aims to meet growing domestic and international demand for power transformers while improving delivery efficiency and reducing reliance on imported equipment. According to the state government, the plant is expected to create up to 250 direct jobs, with a commitment to gender-balanced employment.
Concurrently, Wasion has initiated a $4.5 million expansion of its smart meter factory at Puerto Interior in Guanajuato, bringing total investment in the facility to over $30 million. The plant has already produced more than 8 million smart meters and secured a contract from Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) for 1 million units, covering approximately 90% of Mexico’s smart meter market.
These investments underscore Wasion’s long-term strategy to enhance localized manufacturing in Latin America and mitigate global supply chain risks. Since its 2005 listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company has steadily expanded its global production footprint, with existing facilities in China, Mexico, Brazil, Tanzania, and Hungary, and new plants under development in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia.
