In October 2026, delivery progress of Yutong electric buses was reported in multiple cities across Mexico. Fifty Yutong electric buses for a public transit project in Zacatecas completed customs clearance and cross-border transportation and arrived at designated sites. Meanwhile, the city of León in Guanajuato received its first batch of articulated electric buses for fleet renewal on Transit Line 1.
Zacatecas: Cross-border delivery of 50 electric buses completed
The buses are intended for the local public transit project. Mexico has compliance requirements for complete vehicle imports with multi-step clearance procedures. Bulk vehicle transportation requires coordination among multiple parties, and the cross-border delivery has been completed.
León: First articulated electric buses arrive, service launch date unconfirmed
León plans to introduce a total of 19 units of 18-metre articulated electric buses for Line 1. Four to five buses have arrived so far. The fleet is purchased by route concessionaires, who have put charging infrastructure in place. Local reports state the new buses are fitted with air conditioning and real-time passenger information systems and produce no tailpipe emissions. The official service launch date and investment details have not yet been released.
Preceding field tests support local e-bus transition
León conducted road trials of electric buses beforehand, including models from Yutong and BYD, to evaluate range, charging duration and performance on urban routes. Starting from March 2025, two electric buses have been running on two separate local routes. Local operators confirmed Yutong as the supplier of the articulated fleet. The delivery timeline has been revised several times and no updated schedule has been published.
