Kia and Toyota Drive Mexico’s Auto Output Growth

According to data from the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry (Registro Administrativo de la Industria Automotriz de Vehículos Ligeros), Mexico’s light vehicle production reached 361,047 units in June 2025, representing a 4.9% increase compared to the same month in 2024 (344,206 units). As a result, the cumulative production from January to June 2025 totaled 2,006,720 units, a 0.5% rise compared to the first half of 2024.

Information compiled by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) shows that light trucks maintained their predominance in the production structure during the first half of 2025, accounting for 76.8% of total vehicles manufactured with 1,540,450 units. Passenger cars represented 23.2% of the total, with 466,270 units produced.

Kia and Toyota Stand Out for Production Growth

Among brands affiliated with the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), Kia reported a significant 24.3% monthly increase in production, reaching 25,970 units in June. Toyota showed a 24.7% growth rate, manufacturing 27,108 units. General Motors also performed well, achieving a 4.3% monthly increase and a positive cumulative growth of 1% for the first half of the year.

Conversely, some brands registered notable declines. Mazda saw its June production fall by 19%, while Honda experienced a 6.4% reduction during the same period.

In the segment of non-AMIA affiliated brands, JAC doubled its monthly production, rising from 1,258 units to 2,574 units in June, representing a substantial growth of 104.6%. This contributed to a cumulative increase of 21.2% for the first half of the year.
