Mexico Customs Modernizes to Boost Foreign Trade

  • 8th July 2025

Within the framework of the General Assembly of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology (COMCE), Rafael Marín Mollinedo, Director of Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM), reaffirmed its strategic role in transforming the national customs system, highlighting advancements that enhance the country’s competitiveness, transparency, and economic development.

During his address, the ANAM Director emphasized a historic infrastructure investment of 27.6 billion pesos allocated across 14 priority projects: two completed and twelve currently underway. This strategic commitment aims to modernize customs operations and facilitate international trade with greater efficiency and legal certainty.

By the close of the first half of 2025, ANAM reported revenue collection of 711.914 billion pesos—the highest figure in the past decade—representing a 28.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This achievement is attributed to effective control and optimization measures implemented without fiscal reform, thereby strengthening tax administration at Mexico’s customs points.

Customs Alignment with Nearshoring and Global Competitiveness

ANAM’s strategy aligns with the relocation of production chains (nearshoring), ensuring investment certainty, operational efficiency, and logistics connectivity. Close collaboration with COMCE, the Ministry of Economy, and the Advisory Council for Economic Development and Relocation has been pivotal in consolidating a comprehensive, long-term trade agenda.

Commitment to a Modern and Reliable Customs System

The National Customs Agency reaffirmed its commitment to working jointly with the private sector and other government entities to establish a modern, reliable, and competitive customs system that positions Mexico as a trusted actor in international trade.
