In September, 2026, CATL signed an agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to supply a 313 MW / 1.64 GWh battery energy storage system for the La Alegría solar project in Campeche, southeastern Mexico.
The announced battery energy storage capacity is about 5.2 times the storage capacity originally approved for the project. According to CATL, it will be Mexico’s first battery storage system above 1 GWh and the largest in the country to date. Commercial operation is planned for June 2028.
CATL currently operates five technical service centers in Mexico, located in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, to support local projects.

CATL’s agreement shows that Chinese energy-storage companies are moving beyond equipment supply toward long-term operation and maintenance in Mexico’s power system. A localized service network helps ensure stable operation after grid connection and strengthens the long-term competitiveness of Chinese brands in Mexico’s energy market.
