  • 16th April 2026

According to a joint meeting held Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), the Mexican Association of Automobile Dealers (AMDA), and National Auto Parts Industry (INA), the Mexican electric vehicle market reached a new milestone in March 2026, with sales reaching 16,374 units, a 33.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

This is the highest March growth rate in nearly five years, indicating that the market continues to expand after rebounding from a low base. In comparison, March 2021 saw monthly sales of only 4,039 vehicles, meaning the market has quadrupled in five years.

The overall market performance in 2025 solidified this trend. Electric vehicle sales reached 96,636 units, a year-on-year increase of 38.5%. Among them, pure electric vehicle sales reached 43,358 units (a year-on-year increase of 38.5%), while plug-in hybrid electric vehicles led the way with sales of 52,851 units (a year-on-year increase of 37.6%), thanks to steady growth in each quarter, according to data from European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).

Electric vehicle sales in Mexico remain highly concentrated in major metropolitan areas. In the first quarter of 2026, Mexico City led the pack with 11,180 units sold, followed by the State of Mexico (5,633 units), Nuevo León (4,797 units), and Jalisco (3,632 units). These four regions accounted for 57.1% of total sales.
