On September 28, 2026, SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. (SAIC Volkswagen) announced the first batch of all-new Lamando L vehicles for Mexico had rolled off the production line and begun overseas shipment.
This marked Volkswagen’s first export of China-built complete vehicles to Mexico and SAIC Volkswagen’s debut in the North American finished-vehicle export market. Its existing export footprint already covers Southeast Asia and Central Asia, including the Philippines, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.
According to SAIC Volkswagen, Mexico is a passenger car market with strong demand in North America and a solid sedan consumer base. Young consumers there particularly favor cars that combine sporty styling with practicality; the Lamando L, with its coupe styling and spacious cabin, matches the preferences of these users.
The company says that, drawing on Volkswagen Group’s global standards and its end-to-end value-chain strengths in R&D, manufacturing, logistics and after-sales service, every exported Lamando L adheres to consistent global quality standards.
MEXCHAM sees the export as an example of both SAIC Volkswagen’s expansion into the North American market and Mexico’s demand for China-made vehicles. The Lamando L is engineered with design and configuration tailored to the preferences of Mexico’s young consumers, and new-energy models such as the ID. ERA 9X will also be exported, adding a new case to China–Mexico automotive trade and cooperation.
