Jiangsu-Mexico container shipping route officially launched

  • 28th September 2026

In 2026, the vessel Emerald carrying 524 special containers departed from Jiangyin Port in Jiangsu, bound for Mexico’s Port of Manzanillo, marking the official launch of the new direct container route between Jiangsu and Mexico.

Direct voyage cuts transit time and cross-border logistics costs

According to China News Service, Jia Yabo, Deputy Director of Jiangyin Maritime Safety Administration, stated that the direct route takes roughly 22 days. Compared with traditional transit via Shanghai and Ningbo, the new route greatly shortens cargo transit time and reduces logistics costs, offering an efficient outbound shipping channel for Yangtze River Delta enterprises exploring the North American market.

Custom special containers enable seamless road-rail intermodal transport

The shipped special containers adopt a lowered design to fit the height limits of local railway tunnels and bridges in Mexico. They can be directly lifted onto rail flatcars and truck chassis to realize seamless road-rail intermodal transport. After arriving at Port of Manzanillo, these containers will support inland special cargo intermodal transportation in North America.

Jiangyin Port expands international routes to support foreign trade of Yangtze River Delta

As a key foreign trade hub in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Jiangyin Port has opened multiple international container routes to Southeast Asia and Europe in recent years and strengthened its global outreach. The new direct route to Mexico leverages the advantages of its deep-water channel and helps equipment manufacturers in the Yangtze River Delta tap into the American market.
