Mexican and Chinese Presidents met in G20 |

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and the President of China, Xi Jinping, held a conversation on November 18, 2024, at the G20 Leaders’ Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Hua Chunying, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said Xi once again congratulated President Sheinbaum on becoming the first female president of Mexico, and she said that Xi’s visit to Mexico in 2013 left a deep and strong impression on him. China and Mexico have a time-honored tradition of friendship. The two sides should continue to enhance exchanges and renew friendship, fully leverage the high complementarity of the two economies, and advance practical cooperation to promote all-round development of bilateral relations in the new era. China and Mexico share similar views and ideas on many international issues and both advocate a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization. China is ready to work with Mexico to uphold multilateralism and international fairness and justice, and inject positive energy into the development of the world economy.

Sheinbaum said she was pleased to meet President Xi Jinping, whose assessment of the relationship between the two countries he fully agrees with. Although the two countries are far apart, they have very close ties. Many Chinese companies are doing business in Mexico, including participation in the construction of important infrastructure projects in Mexico City. Mexico’s President thanked to China’s President for supporting Mexico in last hurricanes and other difficult moments to give strong sincere help, which is a strong testimony to the friendship between the two peoples. Mexico and China are committed to the maintenance of multilateralism, and the Mexican side is willing to explore the potential with the Chinese side to further expand cooperation in various fields.
