Yutong Automotive plans to build plant in Mexico

Yutong, the world’s leading electric bus manufacturer, has taken a key step towards expanding its presence in Mexico, as it is now studying the feasibility of building an assembly plant in Mexico. With this move, the Chinese automaker seeks to consolidate its position in the electric and sustainable vehicle market in Latin America, as well as to strengthen itscompetitiveness against other leading companies, such as Tesla.

According to its CEO, Michael Ren, the studies will be completed in 2025, which will determine whether this ambitious investment project for Mexico will be completed. At the moment, it has not been indicated in which entity the Yutong plant could be installed.

lYutong in Mexico: Growth and Achievements since 2018

Since its arrival in Mexico in 2018, Yutong has introduced to the domestic market a range of electric, hybrid and natural gas vehicles, mainly intended for public, tourist and school transportation. With more than 1,200 buses in operation in various cities such as Mexico City (CDMX), Monterrey, Merida and San Luis Potosi, Yutong impacts more than 100,000 users daily. The company also plans to place an additional 600 units by theend of 2024.

lOpportunities in Mexico: Nearshoring and Market Potential

For Yutong, Mexico is attractive not only because of its proximity to the United States and nearshoring opportunities, but also because of its growing demand for sustainable vehicles. According to Ren, the firm sees Mexico as a star in Latin America and North America, a key factor in strengthening its investment plans in the country.
